On 21 November 2024, from 09:00 to 10:15, the FISC Subcommittee will host an exchange of views with the United Nations (UN), the OECD and the Commission to discuss the state of play and the future of European and international tax policies.
In October 2021, more than 135 jurisdictions in the framework of G20/OECD Inclusive Framework agreed on a landmark global tax reform, which foresees a global minimum tax and a reallocation of certain taxing rights to market jurisdictions. In November 2023, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution in favour of starting negotiations on a Framework Convention on International Cooperation, which would increase the role of the UN in international tax policies.
While these developments underscore the capacity of countries to reach agreements at a global level, they also raise questions about the future global governance of tax policy-making. What role will the UN play? How will it cooperate with the OECD? What will be the role of the EU with regards to both fora? The FISC Subcommittee will discuss these matters with Mr Sanya Gbonjubola (United Nations), Ms Manal Corwin, (OECD) and Mr Gerassimos Thomas (European Commission) (tbc).
